High School Important Dates - December and January

As we near winter break it becomes even more important for students to stay on top of their work in order finish strong. While we work hard in December we also have some opportunities for community bonding and learning.

 

Reminder: Late Work Policy.  In order to prepare final report cards in a timely manner, high school guides cannot accept late work in the last month of an academic semester.

 

Some Dates for  December:

  • December 2nd, GSA, Peacejam and Germany Trip at Winterfest
  • December 5th, Grow Haus tour- Environmental Science
  • December 6th and 13th-  Blue Bench Project Self Defense On December 6th and 13th, female-identifying students have the opportunity to participate in a three-hour self-defense workshop with the Blue Bench Project.
  • December 8th, Reorientation Trip Paperwork sent home.
  • December 8th and 9th - High School Play 7:00 pm On December 8th and 9th at 7:00 the theatre elective will put on a Musical Mashup with the elementary students. Tickets are free with a suggested donation of $3. The play will be in the auditorium.
  • December 11th  In store Barnes and Noble Fundraiser for PeaceJam - Please stop by Barnes and Noble in Denver West from  4:00-8:00 pm.  However,  if you prefer online shopping you may shopping you may support Compass PeaceJam December  11th-16th , but you  must Use this code 12277430.
  • December 12th Montbello Food Desert Study pm Environmental Science and Peacejam
  • December 12th  Parent meeting for Reorientation Trip 6:00 pm in the Big Top (High School Math Room, just inside the east-facing door the High School)  
  • December 16th  Service Opportunity Tre Vista 10:00 am.  If your student is interested  please see Eric!
  • December 13th Travis Advisement service project Santa Shop On December 13, Travis's advisement will be working at the Action Center's Santa Shop at Faith Mountain -- 12344 W Alameda Pkwy, Lakewood, CO 80228.  We will be preparing the space for clients to come select holiday gifts for their children.  Drop off can occur at Compass at 7:00 am or at Faith Mountain at 7:30.  Please have your permission slip returned by December 6.
  • December 20th  Advisement Holiday Activities - Many advisements participate in a white elephant gift exchange and/or other fun activities.  Ask your student for details.
  • December 20th  Final Report Cards are sent home with your student.

Dates for January 2018:

  • January 15th - Martin Luther King Day Marade.  We believe that MLK  holiday should be a day “on” rather than a day “off”.  Therefore, the entire high school attends the Marade in downtown Denver.  The cost for transportation (via school bus) is $5.00, due on the 13th.  Students should wear comfortable walking shoes and warm clothes and bring a sack lunch.
  • January 17th-19th - Every year our high school takes a three- day, two-night  trip to the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park.  The goals of this trip are to reorient ourselves with our community,  be active, prepare for standardized testing in an environment different than our own, and have fun!  
  • February 2018 -SAT Prep!  Many of you have asked for testing support for your student.   This is a wonderful opportunity for your student to receive support and practice testing strategies for standardized testing.  If you need financial assistance, please contact Kami in the office  Please see the attached flyer for information.
