December 2nd

We hope you all had a wonderful break and enjoyed spending time with your families. We are back into the swing of things in the Cypress room. We have a lot of energy this time of year in anticipation of winter break, so we are all trying to channel that enthusiasm into productive activities!

We have some exciting research projects happening in the room, along with our regular work. Many of the children have been inspired to learn their math facts, so in addition to our weekly practice, they are taking it upon themselves to really learn their facts. We also have a great deal of enthusiasm for word study right now. We are looking at synonyms, antonyms, compound words, etc. We have also been practicing Lexia in the classroom (for those who are enrolled) so we can build our reading skills. We have continues with Explode the Code for the students who are practicing reading, and for our older students, they are sticking with the reading comprehension practice. They are all making wonderful progress.

We wanted to let you know about a project we would like to embark upon to expand our outside space. Right now, our back door opens up to the parking lot, so we are hoping to extend the back fence so that the door opens into the back area of the school. This would allow the children to work outside when it's warm. We will also be able to do some gardening in raised flower beds and have activities for the children to work on balance and control of their bodies. After the new year, we will send out information about how you all can help us with this project!

Until then, we still have a few projects in the classroom we could use your help with. If you are interested in helping, please let us know. We know it's a busy time of year, but as we prepare report cards, our time for other work practically disappears, so assistance would be greatly appreciated!

You can expect report cards on the last day of the semester, December 21st. We will send them home with your child. If you have any questions about the report, feel free to email us and we will respond after winter break, or we can set up a meeting in the new year.

Also on the 21st, we will be having a movie and pajama day. We will do fun crafts in the morning and then spend time as a class celebrating the holidays with a movie, hot chocolate, and popcorn in the afternoon. The children can wear their pajamas to school, but if they want to bring a blanket, pillow, or stuffed animal for the movie, they may bring one and it needs to fit in their backpack.
