Upper Elementary Guide

I always knew that one day I would be a teacher, but it took 13 years of being a cook, a chef, and a restaurant manager before my journey lead me back to this reality.  I received my BA in English, a minor in Special Education, and my Colorado State Teaching License from Metropolitan State College of Denver in 1996.  I worked as a substitute in various districts and one summer decided that I wanted to make some extra summer money.  That is when my long time friends and founding Compass parents, Charley and Katy Myers, invited me to be a summer school guide at Compass in June of 1998. This was just as the Wheat Ridge campus was getting off the ground and construction was just beginning. Watching and working with Ms. Bridget, who is still a Children's House guide at the WR campus, inspired me and led to the idea that this is where I needed to be teaching. Richard Fulton and Kristy Cash asked me to interview for a teaching position in a lower elementary classroom, and the rest is history!

After working in the lower elementary classroom for one year, I moved into our one and only upper el classroom at the time to co-teach with Carrie Talcott, who is now the Humanities guide and Program Director for the High School.  I studied at the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies (MECR) and received my lower elementary and upper elementary Montessori credential in 2001.  In 2008, I decided it was time to give back to the Montessori community so I became the Universe instructor and a field consultant for aspiring Montessori teachers at MECR.
