Message sent Feb 10th
As you may have seen, Jeffco Public Schools has lifted the mask mandate starting February 12th. Compass Montessori will follow this guidance, and no masks will be required at school beginning Monday, February 14, 2022 for Children’s House through 12th grade. (Not February 18th as stated in yesterday’s message.)
As stated below, masks will be optional at Compass, and if students or staff choose to continue wearing masks, no mask shaming will be tolerated at our school. We’ll provide a supportive environment for both choices. Prevention strategies at Compass will continue, which includes frequent hand washing, enhanced cleaning, reinforcing staying home when sick, symptom screening and air ventilation.
Moving forward, please continue to screen for symptoms at home and do not send your child to school if they are sick. Visit the district site for more information on quarantines and isolations.
We appreciate your cooperation and support during yet another pivot.

Below is Jeffco’s message:
“On February 11, 2022 at 11:59 pm, the Jefferson County Public Health orders requiring masks indoors will expire.
Over the past two years, the district has aligned health and safety decisions in schools on guidance from local public health. JCPH’s decision to allow the mask mandate to expire is due to rapidly improving COVID-19 conditions, vaccine availability, as well as a wide range of effective prevention measures available to our schools and community — including the availability of high-quality masks for those who choose to wear one, rapid testing, good ventilation, and having people stay home when they are sick.
Effective Saturday, February 12, masks are no longer required, but highly encouraged in all district schools and buildings.
- Masks will be optional. This applies to all students (preschool-12th grade), staff, families and visitors in all district schools and buildings as well as students, staff, or visitors during athletics and activities.
- Masks continue to be required on district buses, as required by federal law.
We recognize some staff and students may choose to continue wearing a mask while in school or district buildings. As always, our schools and classrooms will provide a safe and welcoming environment for all students and staff. Behavior such as “mask shaming” will not be tolerated.
Layers of Prevention & Accommodations
As a reminder, we have implemented multiple layered prevention strategies across the district and masks are just one layer. Additional strategies that will remain in place include, but are not limited to:
- Increased air ventilation and filtration
- Frequent hand washing and sanitizing
- Enhanced cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces
- Reinforcing the importance of staying home when sick
- Communicating public health quarantine recommendations
- Access to high-quality KN95 masks for staff and testing hubs for asymptomatic staff and students
The safety of all of our students and staff is our priority. Consistent with applicable law, accommodations are available for students and staff based on disability or medical condition. Please contact your child’s school directly, if you’d like to request an accommodation for your child.
Updated guidance from Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) regarding quarantine and isolation guidelines will be communicated soon. More information about quarantine and isolation guidance can be found on the district website.”
Message sent Feb 9th
Thank you for your patience as we review and consider Jeffco’s message regarding masks at school, which we all received on February 3, 2022. As a reminder, the district’s message said, "Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) Board of Directors made a motion to rescind Public Health Order 21-006, lifting mask mandates for all, including schools, on Friday, February 18. Jeffco Public Schools will no longer require masks starting Friday, February 18.”
As we’ve done throughout this pandemic, we will continue to follow the Jefferson County public health department, and masks will no longer be required at school starting February 18, 2022.
If you have any questions about this decision, please reach out directly to the Jeffco Public Health Department. If you wish for your child to continue to wear a mask at school, you may ask them to do so, and we’ll do our best to support that choice. However, we cannot offer to manage your child’s mask after February 18th.
Compass is moving forward to focus on recovering from the last two years in a positive and hopeful way for our students. We remain dedicated to our Montessori roots and are reinvigorated to refocus our energy on living our school’s mission: “To guide students using authentic Montessori methods, foster interdependence, and nurture intrinsic motivation from within the whole child academically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.”
Thank you, Compass Leadership

Masks - Masks are required indoors by all until February 18th.
Hot Lunch credits - If my child is quarantined, will I get a credit or refund for hot lunches I ordered?
No, unfortunately since food is pre-ordered each month, we cannot issue a refund for hot lunch, even if your child gets quarantined. We know this is disappointing for some, but we must pay the food service bill either way. We appreciate your support, patience and understanding.
Questions or concerns
If you have questions regarding these guidelines, or your family’s COVID status, we encourage you to reach out to your health care provider or the Jeffco public health department.
