COVID Updates 2021 - 2022
COVID REMINDERS & FAQs
Update for September 2nd. - Compass Families of 9th - 12th graders, please review THIS NEWS.
Please review our safety plan at Compass Montessori in response to the current state of the pandemic. As a reminder, we are following the district on the protocols and you can review those Jeffco Health Protocols here,
Symptom screening - Students, parents and guardians should symptom-screen at home prior to arriving at school each day. If a child has ANY symptoms, they should stay home. If symptoms are noticed at school, our Health Aide will call parents/guardians to pick up their child. Please review the Jeffco Health Protocol document, and this tool for at-home symptom screening.
As a reminder, please screen daily for the following symptoms:
- Fever or chills
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Muscle or body aches
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea, vomiting
When should you keep your child home?
- If your child is exhibiting any symptoms
- If anyone in your household has COVID or is being testing for COVID
- When in doubt, contact our Health Aides (below)
Masks - Please read the Jeffco Health Protocols for mask requirements, as we are following the district on these rules.
Who Wears a Mask? Masks are required for students ages 3-11 and unvaccinated staff. For vaccinated staff, and students 12+ masks are strongly recommended.
One to Wear; One to Spare! Masks should cover the nose and mouth. It’s best if they are adjustable for a good fit. Please send two masks with your students - one to wear, one to spare. It might be helpful to invest in a lanyard for student masks, as they are often left behind.
Why are masks important? Jeffco Public Health and the CDPHE are telling us that masks prevent the spread of COVID, and wearing them will help us avoid frequent quarantines, and will allow us the freedom to offer a more normal classroom experience, avoid cohorting, restrict use of facility spaces and ultimately give students an experience that feels like life at school as normal (but with masks).
Car Line - Since Car Line is outside, some staff are not wearing their masks so we can welcome students with our smiles and whole faces showing. We’d love to see your face outside at Car Line if you feel comfortable. Since Jeffco Public Health says we do not need to wear masks outside, we feel comfortable with this choice, and you are welcome to make that choice for your own family regarding masks at Car Line.
If someone in my child’s class tests positive for COVID, what happens next?
If someone in a Compass classroom tests positive for COVID, the classroom is not automatically quarantined. We will immediately assess who that person has been around without a mask, and notify the classroom on next steps.
Will I know if my child’s teacher is vaccinated?
Jeffco Public Schools is not mandating that teachers publically share their vaccination record. We can’t share our internal records for our staff, as it’s in violation of HIPAA. Unvaccinated staff and high school students participating in extracurricular activities are required to test weekly for COVID.
Does the school send whole school communication each time a positive case is reported?
No, we only notify individual classrooms.
Vaccination Records for Students - Per Jeffco’s Public Health Order, high school students participating in extracurricular activities will have to provide proof of vaccination or participate in weekly COVID testing. Jeffco is currently rolling out this process and we’ll be updating individual families when we know more. If you want to volunteer your child’s vaccination record - you can email a picture of it to our Health Aides. If there is a positive case, it expedites the possibility of quarantine if we know who has been vaccinated and who hasn’t.
