MOUNTAIN BIKING
The Compass Mountain Bike Team promotes healthy habits, self-confidence, leadership, hard work, and inclusivity. Among other achievements, Compass has won Spirit Awards in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022; Compass placed Third in the North Conference in 2016; and First in the Distance Challenge in 2020. In 2023, Coach Adam won Coach of the Year and one of our senior riders, Neila Wylie was awarded the Outstanding Student Rider award in October 2023. Our team repeatedly wins the spirit awards, and the sea of pink is hard to miss!
The primary goal for our riders is not to podium; it is to do your best, and make it to the top of the trail to earn the exhilaration of the descent (Although, we have several riders each year on the podium and ride their way to the state championship!). Practices include a variety of terrain and accommodates a wide range of cycling abilities.
Originally organized by High School students, parents, and staff in 2016, the Compass MTB Team has grown exponentially and competes in bike races through the Colorado High School Cycling League, which encompasses four regions in Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Wyoming. All Colorado High School racers compete through this league, so we race alongside Ralston Valley HS, Golden HS, Boulder, Summit County and more!
Who We Are: We are a team consisting of middle and high school students (7th - 12th grade). Eligible high school students in 9th - 12th grades can participate in races. We welcome 7th & 8th grade students to join us and ride on our Devo Team. Only 9th - 12 grade students may officially race through the league. All riders are welcome to come cheer on the 9th - 12th graders at the races!
Racing Schedule: Riders register for the season with the league in May. Team rides begin in the summer (week of July 15, 2024) and we race through the league Aug - October. Check out the August 2024 race schedule HERE.
Practice: Summer practices will be at 5:30 PM and begin the week of July 15, 2024, details to follow. After school begins practices will be 2-3x/week and begin right after school on some days and later on other days.

We Always Need More Coaches! - If you love mountain biking and want to be part of leading this team, we always need parents and other adults to help our athletes thrive and safely have fun. Please contact Coach Kipper to learn how (it’s really easy and fun!). You must get a Level One certification, and you can complete it online!
If your child wants to try out the MTB team, and they are new to biking, please plan to ride with them for the first few practices so we may keep the appropriate ratio of riders to coaches on the trail.
