Introduction to remote learning and schedules - Children's House and Elementary

Dear Compass Families,

Tomorrow we embark on a new learning path in hopes of keeping our children, families, and community healthy and safe. All secondary students will require regular access to a computer/tech device to access online classes being offered via Zoom. Students of our CH (Kindergarten primarily) and Elementary programs will need occasional access to internet-based programs like Lexia, Mobymax, Google Docs, and Khan Academy to get the most out of their remote-learning experience (this is not required, but is highly recommended). Most of these programs can be accessed by tablets and by computer. Roll-out of this process will proceed as follows:

  • Monday, March 16th:

    • Schedule for the day:

      • 8:00-12:00 - Optional Materials pick-up: If you need to pick anything up from the school, please stop by to gather what you need. Some members of the administration, teachers, and tech staff will be at school to help with preparations for this shift.

      • 9:00-11:00 - Optional Computer check-out for K and Elementary: If your family is in need of a computer to aid your child in accessing the internet-based portions of our remote-learning program, please come to the Golden campus to check one out from the school.

        • Prior to coming in tomorrow, please take the time today and fill out the technology request form linked here.  As supplies are highly limited (we do not have near enough devices for every child to take one home), please check out a computer only if you do not have a device at home already to offer your child access to for short periods of time throughout the week (2-3 hours per week for K and El).

        • When you arrive, please be prepared to fill-out Compass Technology Check-out paperwork

      • 12:00 - Building closes until further notice

      • Check your email: Every classroom will be distributing an introduction to a remote-learning outline. It will include:

        • Participation expectations

        • Students who work with our special education staff will have access to and support from the providers during distance learning. They will reach out to individual families with more details.

        • Teacher “office hours” and an explanation of  how best to communicate with them during this time

        • Helpful resources

        • Suggestions on how to help your child be successful in this learning format

        • Attendance expectations/policy

  • Tuesday, March 17th-Friday, March 20th:

    • Begin remote teaching/learning.

    • Reach out with any questions along the way.

    • CH and Elementary families will need to fill out the Google Form attached to the bottom of your daily learning plan to record your child’s daily attendance for their remote-learning day.

  • Monday, March 23-Friday, March 27:

    • SPRING BREAK: No remote-learning class this week

  • Monday, March 30th

    • TBD

    • Be prepared to return to school or to continue this remote-learning format if necessary; Compass administration will be in touch with updates as this situation unfolds.

While we recognize that this format is not ideal for our students and community, we will continue to coordinate efforts to ensure every student’s educational needs are met to the greatest extent possible during these unique circumstances. Thank you all for your flexibility and for helping us to continue to serve our children and families while doing our part to keep everyone healthy and safe!

Best Regards,

Compass Administration
