Newsletter - April 12th, 2017

Where has the year gone? We can't believe that Spring Trip is only a month away. If you haven't heard where we are going yet, we are going to Durango this year. We will be hiking, rafting, rock climbing, zip-lining, and spending a day inside Mesa Verde National Park. Thank you to all of our parent chaperones, we wouldn't be able to pull this off without you. Remember that we will be having a trip meeting at Fuzzy's during our next fundraiser, which is on Monday, 4/17, at 5:30 PM.

We also want to let you know that we started a daily math program. Every week, on Monday, students get a packet that enables them to practice basic math skills and word problems. We ask them to spend the first part of every morning working on that day's math practice and word problem. On Fridays, we meet in groups to go over the answers and the steps on how to solve for each answer.

Later this week we will also be starting our second rotation of Literature Circle books. In these groups, students will participate in an in-depth novel study. The choices this round are:

  • The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
  • Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
  • When Zachary Beaver Came to Town by Kimberly Willis Holt
  • The Liberation of Gabriel King by K. L. Going

In these groups, they will have a weekly reading assignment and sometimes an activity to do around that week's reading. This is also a good way for them to spend time reading at home, but if they bring their book home it must come back to school every day.
