I am a Montessori child at heart! I grew up in Wisconsin and went to Waukesha Montessori School for many years. I have great memories from my experiences as a child in a Montessori classroom. I am so honored to be giving others the opportunity to learn from a Montessori environment.
I went to college in Montana for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Agriculture. I spent a lot of my time in Missoula teaching young children about farming and how our food grows. It was then I decided that I wanted to take hands-on learning into my career choice. When I finished my undergraduate degree, I moved to Maryland to pursue my Master's in Education and AMI Primary Certification.
My first year of teaching was at a public Montessori school in Washington, D.C. I loved my time in the city, but I quickly realized I missed mountain life. I ended up finding a job here in Colorado and haven't looked back since.
I spent the summer adventuring outside and getting married in Wisconsin to my best friend Joel. I love to spend my free time gardening, baking, walking my dogs in the mountains and exploring this beautiful state with my family. This is my fourth year as a lead teacher here and I am so honored to be a part of the Compass community!
Our family has been at Compass for five years now and my two girls are thriving. I can't say enough about this great community! Both Lola and Zoey went through the Forest room with Ms. Emily and I can't believe that they are now in Lower Elementary.
I first learned about Montessori after I graduated from Creighton University. I worked as an assistant in a Montessori toddler classroom for a couple years and I was hooked! I fell in love with the philosophy, and got my Montessori certification for infants and toddlers from the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies. I continued to teach in Colorado and then in Austin, Texas. But we missed Colorado, who wouldn't! I was fortunate to be able to stay at home when my girls were little, but it has been great to get back into the Montessori community by volunteering and being a substitute at Compass. I was excited to get the opportunity to become the float in the Prairie room last year. Being at school everyday has given me the chance to meet most of your children, and I can't wait to meet everyone I haven't gotten to know yet.
When we aren't at school, we like to visit new parks, read, visit with family, bake, and enjoy movie nights together. I feel very priviledged to be able to work with your children, and I am excited to meet all of you as well!
Colleen has been a part of the Compass community for quite some time, almost 9 years now between volunteering and working! She has two wonderful children who attend the elementary and farm school programs. She loves the Montessori philosophy and is such an asset to our team.
When she isn't at work she enjoys spending time with her husband John, cooking delicious Cajun meals, reading a good book, staying active and meeting new people!
