November 11th

Hello! Things have been moving along in the Cypress room. We have been working on a wide variety of lessons, and the children are showing a great deal of independence in their work. The children are diving into our Grammar Boxes to learn the parts of speech, and they have also been working with synonyms and antonyms.

They have continued working on the reading folders for extra practice and reading comprehension. We have a lot of story writing, research, and graph making going on as well. They love to survey the class and then use the information to build a bar graph.

Here are some other examples of the beautiful work the children have completed this week.

Parts of a Circle

Relationships between Lines

Adding Fractions

Naming Fractions

We are starting to push them to learn their math facts as well. Knowing math facts really helps the children with the math materials, as many of them can feel tedious if math facts don't come quickly.  Your help at home will really help your child to be successful. There are lots of fun ways to practice, and we have included a website with great suggestions!

We had a wonderful Day of the Dead celebration! We learned about the cultural traditions of the holiday, and the children really enjoyed the morning of activities and projects.

The children also enjoyed a special treat when Scot (our facilities manager) came to read The Lorax dressed as the Lorax. We also want to thank Lisa Strong for coming in for face painting. Many of the children have their faces decorated with Day of the Dead makeup.

Coming up next Friday, we are celebrating Pie Day. You should have received an invitation in your child's Friday Folder. We will be celebrating at 1:30pm on Friday, November 18th in the Cypress Room. We spoke with the children and asked them to invite two people each. The classroom is small and can only accommodate two people per child. If you have a special circumstance and feel your child needs to bring more than two people, please let us know. We have also sent out a Sign Up Genius for donations of pie, drinks, and other items. Thank you to everyone that has already volunteered! If you would like to help out, we still have more slots to sign up!

If you have not turned in your money for Improv with Kenny, please do so ASAP. It is $8 per child.

Please attend the Parent Ed night at the Golden campus on November 15th at 6pm. Dinner will be prepared by the Farm School students, with a presentation and panel discussion on “Grace & Courtesy” by staff from all levels to follow. Families with children of all ages are encouraged to attend!
