Participate in this School-Wide Recycling Challenge!

Hello Compass Community,

This spring, beginning on April 15th, Compass has the opportunity to participate in a school-wide recycling challenge. In honor of Earth Day which is on Monday, April 22nd, our school will be partnering with RIDWELL. Our featured recycling will be PLASTIC FILM (such as bread bags, shipping envelopes, ziptop bags, bubble wrap, etc. Here is a link that shows everything that we will be collecting: Plastic Film). Families can begin collecting plastic film at home to recycle later during the Compass drive. More details to come later this month!

Ridwell was started in 2018 by a father and son who wanted to help find a solution for and reuse hard-to-recycle items. As of March 12, 2024, RIDWELL has been able to divert 90.9% of the plastic film they have collected in the Denver Metro area from ending up in a landfill by partnering with TREX to provide a key component in making TREX decking!

This is a “challenge” and Compass has the chance of being awarded ONE FULL YEAR of RIDWELL recycling!  All that we need to do is have 10 households sign up for RIDWELL’s service and our school will get an entire year of recycling pick up for hard-to-recycle items (which includes plastic film, multi layer plastic, light bulbs, batteries, etc.). That is exciting! Please use this link to sign up your household:  get.ridwell.com/CMS-DEN

As Montessorians, we deeply value the care of our Earth and believe that this is a tangible and concrete way to teach our students about the impact we can have as individuals and as a community when we work together to find creative & innovative solutions to the problems we face. As Maria Montessori said, The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth.”

Please stay tuned for more information about bringing items from home. Until mid-May, our drive will focus on collecting plastics from Compass.

If you have any questions, they can be directed to Julia Gawrychowski at [email protected] who will be serving as our “Ambassador” and Liaison between Compass and RIDWELL.  We look forward to working together in community on this project!
