What is the General Process?

If you believe you, your child or someone else in the school community has been subject to discrimination based on sex or gender (including Sexual Harassment) as defined here, the first step is to file a complaint (See "Who Should I Contact?")

When the initial complaint is filed, the Title IX Coordinator first determines whether the claim is subject to Title IX (per the circumstances and definitions) and whether emergency removal must take place or any supportive measures can be employed to address the concerns.

  • Emergency Removal of an alleged offender from the recipient's education program or activity must take place if, after an individualized safety and risk analysis, there is an immediate threat to the physical health or safety of any student or other individual arising from the allegations of sexual harassment and the alleged offender is   provided with notice and an  opportunity to challenge the decision immediately after the removal.

  • Supportive measures are non-disciplinary services offered by Compass to restore or preserve equal access to the recipient's education program or activity without unreasonably burdening the other party, such as (but not limited to) counseling, extensions of deadlines or other course-related adjustments, modifications of work or class schedules, campus escort, mutual restrictions on contact between the parties, changes in work or housing locations, leaves of absence, or increased security or monitoring of certain areas of the campus.

If the claim is determined to be subject to Title IX, the following is a general depiction of the process
At Compass, the Title IX Coordinator is Julie Thomerson, who can be reached by phone at 303-420-8288 or email at [email protected].
